Kazakhstan: policemen appropriated found money

An interesting case, which clearly demonstrates the level of “honesty and professionalism” of the Kazakh police, occurred in Aktobe.

Last October, A. Bekkuzhin, a resident of Aktobe, accidentally lost his bag. The loss was discovered by citizen A. Kuanova. Without opening the find, she immediately handed it over to the nearest police station. She handed over the bag personally to Aktobe city police inspectors Nurbek Kasymov and Timur Akmukhambetov.

The police, unlike citizen Kuanova, were not so conscious and honest. After checking the contents of the bag, they found $ 12.5 thousand in it.

Delighted by the unexpected wealth, the inspectors did not inform the duty officer about the found bag, did not write a report with an inventory of its full contents, but hid this fact by dividing the money among themselves.

But they did not manage to appropriate someone else’s property. The owner of the bag Bekkuzhin, having discovered the loss, independently took steps to search for it. After reviewing the video footage from surveillance cameras, he saw that the bag was found by an unknown woman. After that, Bekkuzhin posted a post on social networks asking the person who found his bag to respond. And Kuanova responded. She said that she took the bag to the police and handed it over to the inspectors.

As a result, the greed of the policemen, who prefer quick profit to the service of society, led them to the dock. Both fully admitted their guilt, repented, and asked the court not to deprive them of their freedom, since they reconciled with the victim and fully compensated him for the damage. In addition, they were asked to take into account the presence of young children and elderly parents.

However, they failed to plead with the court. Judge Kenzhebulatova sentenced both to two years in prison to be served in a colony-settlement, as well as a life ban on holding positions in law enforcement agencies and other state bodies. According to the verdict of the court, Akmukhambetov was stripped of the rank of a police captain, and Kasymov of the police lieutenant.
