Uzbekistan: prisoner tried to commit suicide after systematic bullying

The story about the attempted suicide of a prisoner in colony No. 7 in Tavaksay (Tashkent region) was replenished with another episode. As human rights activists found out, a certain Timur also decided to commit suicide along with Alisher Yakubov.

On July 25, fleeing from persecution by the head of the colony, Sharafutdin Usmanov, they climbed onto the roof of a building in the colony and jumped off. Alisher injured his spine, another broke his legs. One of the victims stated that Usmanov climbed onto the roof after them and, provoking them to jump, constantly said: “Jump if you are a man!”

Prisoners are constantly bullied by the staff of the colony and put in a punishment cell for any reason. ACCA previously reported about Sarvar Tashmukhamedov, who went on a hunger strike for six days to protest the bullying.

According to the prisoner’s mother, now the colony’s doctor is denied permission to take X-rays of Timur’s leg fractures. Dilbar Tashmukhamedova wrote about her son and his comrades in misfortune to the president, the prosecutor general, and the commissioner for human rights.

Sarvar is also going to be made an outcast in the colony, like Alisher and Timur. The chief threatens the prisoners by sending them to the “harem”. According to human rights activist Klara Sakharova, some correctional facilities have separate room where prisoners are sent immediately after violent homosexual contact. Depending on the correctional institution, this may be called a “cockerel house” or “chicken coop”, “offended” or “nunnery”. In this case, the convicts are doomed to the dirtiest work, automatically becoming “untouchable” to the inhabitants of the colony.
