Kyrgyzstan: large-scale embezzlement revealed at a state-owned enterprise

The prosecutor’s office of the city of Bishkek conducted an inspection at the state enterprise “Kyrgyzkomur”. She revealed the embezzlement of a large amount of money by company officials.

In particular, the audit found that the responsible persons and the management of Kyrgyzkomur, abusing their official position, contrary to the interests of the state, illegally entered into an agreement with affiliated companies for the purchase of coal transportation services. As a result, the selected companies transported 200 thousand tons from the Kara-Keche open pit to the transshipment base in the city of Balykchy at an almost doubled price.

“The state suffered $1,600,000 (127 million 185 thousand soms) damage. On this fact, the Bishkek Prosecutor’s Office initiated a criminal case under Articles 337 “Abuse of official position” and 339 “Conclusion of a knowingly unprofitable contract” of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan,” the Prosecutor General’s Office reports.

The matter is currently under investigation.
