In Kazakhstan, the purge of the highest echelons of power from proteges of the old system of the era of Nursultan Nazarbayev continues.
The next victims of this work were the ex-deputy chairman of the National Security Committee – Director of the Border Service, Lieutenant General Darkhan Dilmanov, and the head of Nur Zholy Border Control Department of the Road Patrol Service in Almaty region, Major N. Arysbaev.
According to the press service of the NSC, in addition to the above-mentioned border guards, other persons were also detained.
“The detention was made on June 22 as part of the pre-trial investigation conducted by the National Security Committee into the facts of abuse of power revealed at the border posts of the Kazakh-Chinese border. Other information in the interests of the investigation is not subject to disclosure.
It should be noted that Darkhan Dilmanov is a graduate of the Higher Border School in Moscow and the Border Academy of the FSB of Russia. He was appointed Acting Director of the Border Guard Service in October 2014. Before him, this post was held by the infamous General Nurlan Dzhulamanov, who was sentenced in March 2015 to 11 years in prison on charges of accepting large bribes from representatives of commercial enterprises for lobbying their interests in concluding and executing contracts for the supply of goods and services.
In June, according to the decree of the first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, he became deputy chairman of the NSC – Director of the Border Service.
In September 2016, the NSC was headed by the former prime minister of Kazakhstan, Karim Masimov, who is now accused of high treason. Despite the fact that in Kazakhstan it is customary to change the entire team with the change of the head of the department, Darkhan Dilmanov managed to remain in his position. Moreover, in May 2020, by decree of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, he was awarded the military rank of Lieutenant General.
During the tragic January events, there was a rumor that Dilmanov died during the defense of the building of the Border Academy of Almaty from the attacks of protesters. However, later this information was not confirmed. Despite the heroism shown in January, Dilmanov was dismissed in April 2022.
As ACCA has already reported, another former deputy chairman of the NSC, Samat Abish, who is the nephew of the first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, also fell into the orbit of the investigation.
