Kyrgyzstan: A judge of Naryn region was detained while receiving bribe

A preventive measure in the form of detention in a pre-trial detention center was chosen against the judge until the end of the investigation period.

The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, together with the Prosecutor General’s Office, within the framework of a criminal case, recorded the fact of extortion and taking a bribe by a judge of the District Court of Zhumgal and a deputy prosecutor of Zhumgal district, who was caught red-handed.

In this regard, on May 23, a criminal case was initiated against the judge under Article 343 of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan “Extortion of a bribe” for further prosecution.

On June 10, the Council of Judges of Kyrgyzstan satisfied the proposal of the Prosecutor General’s Office to bring the judge to criminal responsibility. On June 17, by decree of President Sadyr Japarov, the judge was temporarily suspended from office.

“On June 21, a measure of restraint in the form of detention in a pre-trial detention center under the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic was chosen against the judge until the end of the investigation period. Earlier, the deputy prosecutor was placed in the pre-trial detention center under the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic for a period of 2 months,” the State Committee reports.
