Kazakhstan: Policeman, who paid hashish for massage, was sentenced to 5 years

On June 15, Court No.2 of Almaty district of the city of Nur-Sultan passed a sentence against the former deputy head of the police department of Saryarka district of the capital, Lieutenant Colonel T.

According to the press service of the City Court, the Lieutenant Colonel was accused of illegal sale and storage of drugs without the purpose of selling them.

As the investigation established, the Lieutenant Colonel offered the massage therapist not money, but hashish weighing 2.1 grams as payment for his massage. The fact of the unusual reward was confirmed in court both by the masseur himself and by witnesses who participated in the search, material evidence and records of conversations made during special operational-search activities.

Under one of the two articles of the Criminal Code, the Lieutenant Colonel is charged with an imprisonment for a term of 5 to 10 years; under the second one – a large fine or correctional labor, or public works up to 200 hours, or arrest for 50 days.

The court recognized as a mitigating circumstance that the ex-policeman has minor children, but at the same time took into account the aggravating circumstances – the crime was committed by a person who swore to fight such crimes.

As a result, the Lieutenant Colonel was sentenced to 5 years in prison with deprivation of the rank of Police Lieutenant Colonel.

Unfortunately, one of the articles, on which the policeman was convicted, implies a closed trial, so the details of this amazing case, as well as the court verdict itself, couldn’t be found. The Court Office portal, which hosts the schedule for considering all court cases, didn’t publish the name of the defendant either. However, in the contact directory of the capital’s police officers, we managed to establish that the head of the Police Department of Saryarka district has (or had) only one deputy, whose last name begins with the letter T. This is Zeinolla Tolezhanov. Alas, no more detailed information about this person was found online either.
