Kyrgyzstan: A soldier was tortured and extorted in a military unit

Employees of the National Center for the Prevention of Torture of Kyrgyzstan visited a soldier who was subjected to torture and cruel treatment.

During the conversation, the soldier said that this crime occurred at the time of his duty. The soldier of service for a fixed period of the military unit 86123 under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the republic was beaten by a superior in rank (a warrant officer) in order to extort money.

According to the soldier’s words, beatings and bullying by the commanding officers began from the first days of his service in the army and continued to this day.

“On the night of his duty, the victim was hospitalized in the village of Belovodskoe because of the physical injuries. However, later, due to the fact that he needed an additional examination, he was transferred to City Hospital No.4 in Bishkek. During the examination, the doctors found that he had damage to the internal organs of the abdominal cavity, as a result of which an operation was urgently performed,” was reported by the National Center.

Doctors have drawn up the Istanbul protocol. A written statement was received with the consent of the patient and sent to the Military Prosecutor’s Office to take appropriate measures against the perpetrators.
