Kazakhstan: Corruption fighters pledge $29,000 for information about fugitive police officer

The Anti-Corruption Agency was so desperate to find and detain the former police chief of Pavlodar region Nurlan Masimov that they even offered a reward for any information on his whereabouts.

As ACCA has already reported, Nurlan Massimov is the cousin of the former Chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan, Karim Massimov, who was arrested on January 8 on suspicion of high treason, preparation for a violent seizure of power, abuse of office and committing corruption crimes.

On January 15, when the cleansing of the ranks of those involved in the January events began throughout the country, Nurlan Massimov was removed from the post of head of the police department. On April 22, it became known that Nurlan Massimov was put on the wanted list on suspicion of committing a corruption crime – taking a large bribe.

And now, after almost two months, the corruption fighters actually recognized that the complex of operational-search measures to establish the whereabouts of Nurlan Massimov didn’t produce any results, and therefore they had to resort to the help of the public.

“Masimov Nurlan Myrzakhanovich, born in 1973, is wanted for a particularly serious corruption crime. When identifying a wanted person or receiving any information about his possible whereabouts, please inform the Agency. There is a reward of up to 4,000 MCI for providing information about his whereabouts,” the Agency announced in its statement released recently.”

It should be noted that 1 MCI in Kazakhstan is $7.29 on April 1, 2022. Consequently, the Anti-Corruption Agency is ready to pay about $29,000 for information about Massimov’s whereabouts.
