Kyrgyzstan: Minister of Public Health Alymkadyr Beishenaliev was detained

He is suspected of unjustified embezzlement of almost $20 million (1.6 billion KGS). This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan.

Despite Kyrgyzstan’s agreements with international organizations and partner countries to provide vaccines against Covid-19 free of charge, Minister of Public Health Alymkadyr Beishenaliev purchased vaccines from foreign private companies.

Thus, from December 2020 to September 2021, Kyrgyzstan received 451,560 doses of vaccines as humanitarian aid from international organizations, Russia, China, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. In total, 3 million 147.6 thousand doses of vaccines were imported into the country.

At the same time, officials additionally purchased 2,460,000 doses of vaccines for personal gain. When checking, it turned out that 243,223 doses of the vaccine were expired. Also, the expiration date of the rest of the vaccines is coming to an end today.

“In April, June, July and September 2021, Beishenaliev purchased 2,460,000 doses of vaccine for 1 billion 581.5 million KGS from foreign private companies. It became known that these funds were transferred to an offshore zone,” the Prosecutor General’s Office reports.

As a result of these actions, the state suffered a significant damage.
