Uzbekistan: Human rights blogger was convicted of filming elections

On May 23, Murod Makhsudov (chairman of the Tashkent regional branch of the Human Rights Society “Ezgulik”) was sentenced to five days of administrative arrest by the District Court of Mirzo-Ulugbek. This was announced by the head of the organization Abdurahmon Tashanov. At the same time, he noted that the honorary officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was punished.

Based on the materials of the investigation, Murod Makhsudov was charged with petty hooliganism and disobedience to the lawful demand of a representative of state authorities.

The blogger and activist allegedly illegally filmed the elections of the alderman of the mahalla at one of the polling stations in the capital. This was considered by the court as an offense.

Ezgulik intends to appeal the decision to the City Court of Tashkent.
