Kyrgyzstan: Officer of the Penitentiary Service was detained for extorting a bribe

On February 8, the State Committee for National Security detained a senior detective of the colony No. 47 of the Penitentiary Service while receiving a bribe.

He is suspected of a crime under Article 343 of Part 1 “Extortion of a bribe” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

It was established that the man, using his official position, as well as through threats, extorted money from a convict serving a sentence in the correctional colony No. 47.

“By threatening to transfer the convict against his will to another correctional facility and reprisals against him with the help of other convicts, the detainee was receiving money from him from April 2021 to January 28, 2022,” the State Committee notes.

The detainee was placed in the temporary detention center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan.
