Kyrgyzstan: Interior Ministry officers were detained while receiving bribe

On February 4, the State Committee for National Security, together with the Internal Investigation Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, identified and detained employees of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of Karakol on the fact of extorting a bribe red-handed.

It was established that the investigator of the Main Department of Internal Affairs, a senior lieutenant of militia, and the detective of the CID, the captain of militia, extorted money for the termination of pre-trial proceedings.

Based on the evidence collected in the case under Article 343 “Extortion of a bribe” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, the investigator and the officer of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of Karakol were detained and placed in the pre-trial detention center of Tup and Dzhety-Oguz districts of Issyk-Kul region.

An investigation is currently underway into this matter.
